Good evening ,ladies and gentlemen! I am zhangmeiyu, major in material chemistry. As our topic today is disaster, I would say that disater cannot be discribed only by ice thickness, magnitude, and the number of people who were dead. It means people are suffering. In recent years we suffer from disasters frequently including floods, drought, earthquakes, typhoon and so on. Well, obviously some disasters are caused by human

industrialization and environment pollution, some are likely pure natural that caused by earth geologic movements. Whatever it is, the point is when disaster strikes, what can we do ?

There"s a saying I heard a long time ago, and it always stuck with me. "Plan for the worst, and hope for the best." So the first step is to be well prepared. A lot can be done including developing the forecast system ,

learning common sense, taking emergency into account when constructing buildings to minimize the loss.

The second point is about the post-disaster reconstruction. It is not only buildings and infrastructure, but also peoples hope and confidence that need to be reconstructed. The disaster, although tragic,is also a new begining. We have to start from scratch , but the cruel disaster makes us know more about love and interpersonal relationship. We know more

about ourselves, and what is truly important to us. Disasters, as terrible as they are, often bring people and communities together. Many disaster victims find that they are stronger than they realized and that despite the

ill luck that has fallen their way, they are equipped to survive. As a victim, while it may be tempting to play the role of a victim and continue to grieve our losses, taking action can have a healing affect. It propels us forward and demonstrates that we do have some control over our

situation.Empower ourselves by volunteering to help others in worse shape than we are in.If we see a need, do what we can to fill it.

At last, I want to say what once said by the he-ro-in-e of “gone with the wind”,After all, tomorrow is another day.

Today my topic is man-made disaster.

In the world, there are natural disasters, ecological disaster, man-made disasters. In the natural disaster such as the tsunami, earthquakes and floods, some of the damages are unavoidable, while the man-made disaster is more horrible. Now let me say some about the man-made disasters.

Man-made disasters, it is our own creation. Perhaps some cause that, but make more to bear. The individual feels now nothing, but the disaster is difficult to predict, such as food safety accidents, terrorist attack and so on.

Global warming is a representative of man-made disaster. Now I come to introduce some of the information about it.

In recent years the population increasing that cause global warming is one of the major factors. At the same time, it also makes a serious threat to the balance with natural ecological environment. So many people, only their emissions of co2 will be a surprising number, with factory and car sending out, and their result will be directly causing system of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, thus formed constantly increased carbon dioxide "greenhouse effect" on the surf-ace of the earth will directly affect the climate change.

At present, the sea is constantly a rising trend, according to experts predict that the next century, the sea level could rise 50cm. If you don"t take measures, and freshwater resources will directly cause the destruction and pollution, etc.

Global warming is now no one doubts that global warming is caused by the people. Even if global warming can control a few, but the impact of the disaster is certainly nothing before. Over the years, the disaster was very slow, so that people have noticed it. But now, everyone can see: global ice is melting, sea-level rise, the southwestern United States, Australia, and sub-saharan African drought. Although these disasters incompletely caused by global warming, still to some degree, and they also will be increasing with global warming, eventually, that is endangering the survival of mankind.

The fundamental method is to reduce carbon emissions, such as reducing 1

population, reducing fossil fuels( coal, oil and gas, etc.), using more new energy (light and water, wind, etc), more creature planting green plants to absorb carbon and give off oxygen to improve the condition, etc. _ et cetera

Since is a man-made disasters, I think we should solve that from the start. Let us make a little contribution to the society, ma-ki-ng our motherland more beautiful.

a volunteer is someone who works for a community or for the benefit of natural environment primarily because they choose to do so. the word comes from latin, and can be translated as "will" (as in doing something out of ones own free will). many serve through a non-profit organization ╟ sometimes referred to as formal volunteering, but a significant number also serve less formally, either individually or as part of a group.

by definition, a volunteer worker does not get paid or receive compensation for services rendered other than reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses

many organizations (hospitals, food banks, etc.) have a continual need for volunteers. other high-profile events, such as a marathon, require hundreds or thousands of volunteers for a one-time or annual need. the success of such events has a significant economic impact on the local economy. thus, there is increasing awareness of the economic importance of volunteers.

this, in turn, has elevated the importance of the volunteer manager for such events, people who formerly may have managed volunteers in addition to other duties but now may be viewed as professionals in the field.this has also increased the need for volunteer management software, e-mail broadcasts, texting and other technological tools, allowing the volunteer manager to register and communicate with large numbers of people who otherwise have no connection to each other.

as we all know, one’s life is full of unexpected events, some of which are wonderful and some of which are disastrous. those heavy blows, such as, floods, snowstorms, and earthquakes, threaten to weigh one down.

however, it’s even worse if one can’t drag himself out of the grief in that break-down in the sprit is more serious than the disaster itself. instead of indulging oneself in sadness, one should be positive of life and contribute to the reconstruction of the hometown.

as to me, if i am not the victim of a disaster, i will try my best to help those who are suffering by donation blood or money. if i am a victim, i will try my best to recover from the sadness as soon as possible and try to be strong and supportive to the recovery work.
